Safety First

Adjusting to life in the U.S. can be exciting — and it also means adapting your routines and habits to stay safe. Bridge Aspire’s Safety First approach helps you protect yourself, make smart choices, and feel confident in your new environment.

Moving to the U.S. can mean transitioning from a smaller community to a fast-paced city. Being aware of your surroundings and using sound judgment are key to personal safety.

Bridge Aspire encourages mature behavior and proactive thinking — the same principles that guide our Safety First policy: your safety always comes before convenience or cost.

Possible Risks in the U.S.

While the U.S. is generally safe, understanding possible risks can help you remain alert and prepared, especially in larger cities or unfamiliar neighborhoods.

  • Pickpockets, scams, or overly friendly strangers
  • Harassment or unwanted attention
  • Gun violence or political unrest
  • Natural disasters
  • Homelessness or public disturbances
  • Transportation accidents
  • Sexual assault or unsafe situations
  • Cultural misunderstandings

Emergency Situations

If you need immediate help from the police, fire department, or medical services, call 911. Be ready to provide:

  • Your exact location or address
  • Your phone number
  • The nature of the emergency
  • Details (who is involved, what’s happening, or visible injuries)

Stay on the line and follow instructions from the dispatcher. Many centers will guide you through first aid until help arrives. If you call 911 by mistake, do not hang up — simply explain the error.

Always notify your Bridge Aspire support team of any emergency. A 24-hour emergency line is available for assistance.

Non-Emergency Situations

If your situation isn’t life-threatening but you still need police assistance — such as for theft, trespassing, or noise complaints — call your city’s local non-emergency number.

If your passport is lost or stolen, file a police report immediately and contact your country’s Embassy or Consulate. Notify Bridge Aspire staff right away so we can guide you through the next steps.

For a directory of non-emergency police numbers across major U.S. cities, visit your local city website or ask your host company’s HR department for guidance.

Safety and Emergency – Frequently Asked Questions

If you need immediate help from the police, fire department, or medical services, call 911. You’ll be connected to an emergency operator who will ask questions about your location and situation. Stay calm, speak clearly, and follow their instructions.

An emergency includes serious or life-threatening situations such as a fire, crime in progress, car accident, medical emergency, or any event that requires immediate assistance from emergency services.

If you call 911 accidentally, don’t hang up. Stay on the line and explain to the operator that it was a mistake. Hanging up may cause emergency responders to be dispatched unnecessarily.

Report it immediately to the local police and get a copy of the report. Then contact your home country’s Embassy or Consulate to request a replacement passport. Notify your J-1 Visa sponsor and Bridge Aspire advisor so we can help you with next steps and identity protection.

If it’s not urgent but you still need police assistance (for example, a noise complaint, lost property, or minor vandalism), call your city’s non-emergency police number. You can find it online or ask your host company for the local contact.

Get familiar with your surroundings, avoid poorly lit or unfamiliar areas at night, and travel with friends whenever possible. Keep valuables out of sight, and always lock your doors and windows when you leave your home.

Yes, the U.S. is generally safe, but like any country, it’s important to stay alert and make responsible decisions. By following safety tips, using trusted transportation, and communicating with your support network, you can minimize risks.

If you ever feel threatened, leave the situation immediately and go to a safe public area. You can call 911 for immediate help or report the incident to your host company and Bridge Aspire advisor for support and follow-up.

Learn about the most common risks in your area (for example, hurricanes, tornadoes, or earthquakes). Keep emergency contacts saved in your phone, have copies of important documents, and follow local alerts or safety instructions when issued.

The Bridge Aspire Experience

What Participants Say

Leave a review

My internship through Bridge Aspire gave me so much more than professional experience — it gave me perspective. Training in Chicago taught me to adapt, lead, and see my future in a whole new light.

Bridge Aspire made the process effortless. From the moment I applied, their guidance was clear and supportive. I trained in an amazing U.S. resort and returned home with skills — and confidence — I never thought possible.

I always dreamed of training abroad, but didn’t know where to start. Bridge Aspire helped me prepare, interview, and adjust when I arrived in Florida. I grew both professionally and personally.
