Frequently Asked Questions about the DS-7002 Form

The DS-7002, or Training/Internship Placement Plan, is a required U.S. Department of State document that defines the structure and objectives of your J-1 Visa internship or training program. It ensures your experience is educational, well-supervised, and aligned with the goals of international cultural exchange.

The DS-7002 is completed collaboratively by three parties — you (the intern or trainee), your U.S. host company, and a designated J-1 Visa sponsor. Bridge Aspire works closely with long-established sponsors to guide both you and your host through the process.

A fully approved DS-7002 is a mandatory part of your J-1 Visa application. It must be reviewed and signed before your DS-2019 (Certificate of Eligibility) can be issued, which you’ll then use during your visa interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

The form outlines key details such as:

  • Your background and field of study or work

  • The host company’s information and location

  • Defined learning goals and supervision plans

  • Cultural exchange opportunities you’ll experience in the U.S.

It ensures transparency and shared understanding between you, your host, and your sponsor.

Yes. Any significant changes — such as a new host site, altered duties, or an extension — require an updated DS-7002. This keeps your program records accurate and compliant with U.S. Department of State regulations.

Each plan includes a section dedicated to cultural engagement. Activities such as celebrating U.S. holidays, volunteering, attending community events, or exploring local attractions are considered vital parts of your J-1 experience. They encourage participants to learn about American life while sharing their own cultures in return.

Bridge Aspire and our sponsor partners can provide a general sample for educational purposes. However, every DS-7002 is personalized to reflect your specific training goals and host organization’s structure.

The timeline depends on how quickly your host organization and sponsor provide their input. On average, it takes one to two weeks to prepare, review, and finalize once all information is received.

Your first point of contact is your Bridge Aspire advisor. They’ll connect you with your program sponsor to ensure the DS-7002 is completed correctly and approved before moving on to the next step — your DS-2019 issuance and visa application.

My internship through Bridge Aspire gave me so much more than professional experience — it gave me perspective. Training in Chicago taught me to adapt, lead, and see my future in a whole new light.

Bridge Aspire made the process effortless. From the moment I applied, their guidance was clear and supportive. I trained in an amazing U.S. resort and returned home with skills — and confidence — I never thought possible.

I always dreamed of training abroad, but didn’t know where to start. Bridge Aspire helped me prepare, interview, and adjust when I arrived in Florida. I grew both professionally and personally.
