SEVIS Validation: Confirm Your Arrival (within 72 hours): Contact Bridge Aspire to Confirm Your Arrival

Your journey officially begins the moment you land in the United States. Within 72 hours of arrival, contact your J-1 Visa Sponsor and Bridge Aspire so we can validate your SEVIS record and activate your J-1 Visa status.

1

Contact Bridge Aspire (within 72 hours)

Send your J-1 visa sponsor and Bridge Aspire an email or give us a quick call to confirm that you’ve arrived safely. Include the following details:

  • Your full U.S. address, including apartment or room number (temporary is fine).
  • A local phone number, if available.

Once we receive your information, we’ll register your arrival in SEVIS — the official U.S. government system that tracks all J-1 participants.

⚠️ You must complete this step before applying for your Social Security Number (SSN).
2

Check Your Welcome Email

After confirming your arrival, Bridge Aspire and your J-1 Visa sponsor will send you a Welcome Email with important details about your program and next steps.

You’ll also receive an official SEVIS activation notice from [email protected] — please keep this email for your records.

3

Coordinate with Your Host Organization

Reach out to your Host Organization to confirm your first day of training and review any onboarding instructions. If you cannot reach your host, contact your J-1 Visa Sponsor and Bridge Aspire immediately for assistance.

4

SEVIS Validation & Activation

After receiving your address, Bridge Aspire will validate your SEVIS record and change your J-1 status to Active. We cannot activate your record before your official program start date.

Once your record is active, you may apply for your Social Security Number (SSN). Some hosts may also require a drug test or background check before training begins. These can take a few days to process.

Tip: Some employers require your SSN before issuing your first paycheck — check with your Host in advance.

⚠️ Important Note

Applying for your Social Security card before your SEVIS record is validated may cause significant processing delays. Always confirm your arrival and wait for SEVIS activation before visiting the Social Security office.

SEVIS Registration – Frequently Asked Questions

SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) is a U.S. government database that tracks international students and exchange visitors. Your SEVIS record must be validated after you arrive in the U.S. to officially activate your J-1 status. Without validation, you cannot begin your program or apply for a Social Security Number.

You must contact your J-1 Visa sponsor and Bridge Aspire within 72 hours of your arrival in the U.S. to confirm that you’ve arrived safely. This step allows us to update your SEVIS record and activate your J-1 visa status.

Please provide your full U.S. address (including apartment or room number, even if temporary) and a local phone number if available. This ensures that your SEVIS record and contact details are accurate.

No. You must wait until Bridge Aspire has validated your SEVIS record and your status is marked as “Active.” Applying for your SSN too early can cause processing delays.

Once Bridge Aspire validates your SEVIS record, you will receive an official confirmation email from [email protected]. Keep this email for your records.

You must update your J-1 Visa Sponsor & Bridge Aspire within 5 days of any change to your U.S. address or contact information. This is a U.S. Department of State requirement to maintain your valid J-1 status.

If you have trouble contacting your Host Organization, contact your J-1 visa sponsor and  Bridge Aspire immediately. We’ll assist in coordinating your start and resolving any communication delays.

No. SEVIS validation can only occur on or after your official program start date, not before. This is a federal regulation.

Failure to confirm your arrival may delay your SEVIS validation, your SSN application, and your ability to start training. In some cases, it could lead to SEVIS termination if not addressed promptly. Contact your J-1 Visa Sponsor and Bridge Aspire as soon as possible if you miss the 72-hour window.

Some Host Organizations require a drug test or background check before your first day of training. This process may take a few days, so it’s best to ask your Host in advance.

The Bridge Aspire Experience

What Participants Say

Leave a review

My internship through Bridge Aspire gave me so much more than professional experience — it gave me perspective. Training in Chicago taught me to adapt, lead, and see my future in a whole new light.

Bridge Aspire made the process effortless. From the moment I applied, their guidance was clear and supportive. I trained in an amazing U.S. resort and returned home with skills — and confidence — I never thought possible.

I always dreamed of training abroad, but didn’t know where to start. Bridge Aspire helped me prepare, interview, and adjust when I arrived in Florida. I grew both professionally and personally.
