Host Company Eligibility

Bridge Aspire welcomes U.S. host companies that are committed to providing meaningful, structured, and culturally enriching training experiences. To ensure the quality and compliance of every program, host organizations must meet the following eligibility criteria:

🏛️ Compliance & Legal Requirements

  • Adhere to all U.S. Department of State regulations and Bridge Aspire program guidelines.
  • Comply with all occupational health and safety laws.
  • Maintain proper tax reporting and employment compliance at all times.
  • Provide valid Worker’s Compensation insurance, or proof of exemption when applicable.
  • Allow Bridge Aspire or its partner sponsor to conduct site visits when required.

💼 Program Structure & Training Standards

  • Offer 32–40 hours of training per week in a professional setting.
  • Ensure positions are professional-level, with no more than 20% clerical duties.
  • Deliver a structured training plan that includes guided mentorship, classroom-style sessions, and hands-on learning.
  • Avoid unskilled, casual labor, or substitute employment roles.
  • Provide direct, on-site supervision and mentoring throughout the program.
  • Complete and adhere to the official Training/Internship Placement Plan (Form DS-7002).

🔄 Program Monitoring & Communication

  • Submit Midpoint and Final Evaluations for each participant on schedule.
  • Maintain clear communication with Bridge Aspire regarding participant progress and wellbeing.
  • Immediately report any issues, emergencies, or safety concerns.
  • Notify Bridge Aspire of any changes to the placement plan or participant status (including outside work).

🌍 Cultural Exchange & Engagement

  • Encourage a welcoming environment through cultural exchange activities such as team events, local excursions, and celebrations.
  • Support mutual understanding by fostering collaboration between U.S. staff and international participants.

Partnering as a Host Company means joining a global network committed to professional growth, intercultural learning, and responsible exchange.

Bridge Aspire partners with U.S. hospitality organizations that offer structured, skills-based training designed to help participants grow professionally while experiencing American culture firsthand.

Eligible host companies include:

Hotels, resorts, and fine-dining establishments that provide well-rounded, rotational training in areas such as food & beverage service, restaurant management, banquets and events, culinary operations, and guest relations.

To maintain the integrity of the training experience, all placements must offer a comprehensive learning environment — not simply day-to-day labor.

 Eligible Training Environments

  • Full-service hotels, resorts, and upscale restaurants
  • Culinary and banquet operations with supervisory learning opportunities
  • Hospitality management departments with structured mentorship and development plans

Bridge Aspire cannot approve training placements in the following roles, as they do not meet the program’s professional development requirements:

  • Room Attendant
  • Dining Room Attendant
  • Public Area Attendant
  • Busser
  • Bartender
  • Laundry
  • Valet
  • Bell Staff
  • Steward
  • Line Cook

Additionally, placements in fast-food restaurants, quick-service outlets, convenience stores, or counter-service operations are not eligible for J-1 training or internship programs.

Regulations on Counter Service Positions

To protect the educational purpose of the J-1 Exchange Program, participants may not be placed in fast-food restaurants, convenience stores, or similar counter service environments.

These positions do not meet the intent of the program, which is to provide guided, skill-based training in participants’ academic or professional fields — not routine or unskilled work.

Prohibition of Unskilled and Casual Labor

All host companies must ensure that internship and training placements are bona fide educational experiences, not substitutes for ordinary employment or a means to displace U.S. workers.
Programs must clearly distinguish between:

  • Training vs. Work — Trainees should be learning, not filling job vacancies.
  • Skill Development vs. Routine Labor — Interns should gain progressive, field-related experience.

Annex: Examples and Acceptable Activities

The U.S. Department of State provides detailed examples clarifying what qualifies as acceptable work-based learning under 22 CFR 62.22.
This annex includes practical case studies showing how structured, rotational training can meet compliance standards while promoting participant development.

Important Information for Food & Beverage (F&B) Roles

Training phases that include limited, entry-level service activities (such as server or host training) are permissible only when part of a broader restaurant management or operations program. However:

  • Serving as a server, bartender, or attendant for an entire phase is not allowed and is considered unskilled labor.
  • Activities listed in Appendix E (Unskilled Occupations) may only appear as observational components, not as the main focus of a training phase.
  • Every phase must show a clear progression from entry-level learning to advanced skill acquisition.

By following these standards, Bridge Aspire ensures that all training experiences remain educational, compliant, and genuinely transformative — upholding the core purpose of international exchange.

The Bridge Aspire Experience

What Participants Say

Leave a review

My internship through Bridge Aspire gave me so much more than professional experience — it gave me perspective. Training in Chicago taught me to adapt, lead, and see my future in a whole new light.

Bridge Aspire made the process effortless. From the moment I applied, their guidance was clear and supportive. I trained in an amazing U.S. resort and returned home with skills — and confidence — I never thought possible.

I always dreamed of training abroad, but didn’t know where to start. Bridge Aspire helped me prepare, interview, and adjust when I arrived in Florida. I grew both professionally and personally.
