About the Role

This is an exceptional Paid J-1 Visa Internship in New York, offering a rare opportunity to train within a historic, members-only private country club. Designed for ambitious hospitality students and graduates, this 12-month program immerses participants in the world of luxury member relations and high-end dining operations. Unlike standard hotel roles, this position focuses on building long-term rapport with exclusive clientele, providing a deeper understanding of personalized service standards.

Participants will rotate through various Front of House functions, gaining exposure to à la carte fine dining, large-scale banquets, and private member events. The training emphasizes the nuances of American club management, including service etiquette, table management logic, and operational logistics.

Located in Lake Success, just outside of New York City, this program offers the perfect balance of a focused professional environment and access to one of the world’s cultural capitals. With free on-site housing provided, interns can fully focus on their professional development and cultural exchange experience without the stress of securing accommodation in the New York market.

For a J-1 intern, this environment offers a unique advantage: the ability to learn in a stable, high-touch environment where quality of service is prioritized over volume. The organization is experienced in hosting international staff and provides a supportive community atmosphere.

Responsibilities
  • Guest Experience Management: Learn to manage member expectations and deliver personalized service during à la carte dining and private events.

  • Operational Logistics: Rotate through opening and closing procedures, understanding how to prepare a dining room for service (mise en place).

  • Banquet & Event Support: Assist in the execution of high-volume weddings, galas, and member tournaments, coordinating with the culinary team for seamless service.

  • POS & Systems Training: Gain proficiency in Point of Sale systems for order entry, coursing, and check settlement.

  • Service Etiquette: Master American fine dining standards, including table maintenance, wine service basics, and nonverbal communication cues.

  • Reservation Management: Assist in organizing seating charts and managing flow during peak service hours to optimize the guest experience.

Qualifications
  • J-1 Visa Eligibility:

    • Intern: Current student in a post-secondary academic institution outside the USA, OR a recent graduate (graduated within the last 12 months).

    • Trainee: Degree/Certificate from a post-secondary institution abroad PLUS 1 year of work experience outside the USA, OR 5 years of relevant work experience outside the USA.

  • Education: Studies in Hospitality Management, Tourism, or Hotel Administration.

  • Personality: Enthusiastic, curious, and flexible. Must be comfortable multitasking in a busy environment.

  • English Level: Advanced / Fluent (C1). Clear communication is critical for interaction with club members.

  • Experience: Prior experience in hotels or restaurants is preferred but not mandatory if the attitude is right.
